Physics encompasses the study of the incredibly vast scaled structures such as galaxies to the absolute smallest subatomic particles. It is the basis of many other sciences, including chemistry, meteorology, oceanography, seismology and astronomy. It is also applied in many areas across biology and medical sciences.

What will I study?

A few of the course units include particles & radiation waves, electricity, fields, thermal and nuclear physics.

Learners can also expect to develop confidence in practical experimentation from the 12 required practicals organised over the two years, along with improved competence with Mathematical skills.

How will I be assessed?

This course is 100% exam based.

Over the duration of the course learners can expect end of topic assessments for each of the subject areas covered.

At the end of the first year, there will be two exam papers to sit, each one lasting 1.5 hours and covering course content and completed required practicals.

The final year assessment will be three exams, to include two, 2-hour papers comprised of multiple choice and structured questions and a third paper presented in two parts.

Entry requirements

Five or more GCSE grades 9-5, including a minimum grade 5 in English and a minimum grade 6 in Science and Maths.
