The Board of Trustees
BackHaringey Sixth Form College is a 16-19 Academy. We are committed to effective and ethical governance.
The board is accountable for the use of public funds and has a duty of care for the college's assets. The role of its members is similar to that of non-executive directors or trustees.
Board
The board meets at least three times a year. Its members are drawn from local businesses, the community, students and staff.

Dave Wyatt
Chair of the Board of Trustees
Dave Wyatt has served as a Trustee of Haringey Sixth Form College since 2016 and is Chair of the Board. He provides strategic leadership to the Board and ensures trustees fulfil their statutory responsibilities for accountability, educational performance, and financial oversight.
Dave is a highly experienced senior finance leader, having worked for the Lighting Division of General Electric as a senior finance leader for EMEA and as a director of a number of its businesses. He now undertakes consultancy work as a semiâretired finance professional.
He has extensive governance experience across notâforâprofit and strategic partnership boards, including as Chair of the North London Chamber of Commerce and as a director of Urban Futures. He currently holds directorships with the Enfield Enterprise Agency and the Lighting Industry Association.
As Chair of the Board, Dave promotes a positive culture of safeguarding and ensures that safeguarding arrangements are subject to appropriate strategic oversight, assurance, and challenge, with a clear focus on keeping learners safe.
Ayub Khan, FRSA, FCMI
ViceâChair of the Board and Chair of the Audit Committee
Ayub Khan joined the Board of Trustees in December 2018 and currently serves as ViceâChair of the Board and Chair of the Audit Committee. In this role, he oversees financial governance, risk management, internal controls, and compliance.
Ayub is an experienced Chief Executive with over twenty years of leadership across the public and third sectors. He is currently Chief Executive of Citizens Advice Harlow, focusing on organisational sustainability and community impact.
His previous governance roles include ViceâChair and Trustee of YMCA England & Wales, Trustee of Thames Gateway YMCA, Trustee of Keychange, and Chair of the Audit Committee for the Further Education Trust for Leadership and the Learning and Skills Improvement Service. He is also a governor at Harlow College.
As ViceâChair and Chair of the Audit Committee, Ayub supports the Board’s responsibility for maintaining a strong culture of safeguarding. Ayub is the link trustee with responsibility for health and safety.
Deborah Dent
Trustee and Chair of the Curriculum and Standards Committee
Deborah Dent joined the Board of Trustees in April 2024 and serves as Chair of the Curriculum and Standards Committee. She leads Board oversight of educational quality, curriculum development, teaching and learning, and student outcomes.
Deborah has significant experience in classroom teaching and departmental leadership across secondary and postâ16 education. She has held senior management roles in colleges and has worked as an adviser to local authorities on postâ16 education, including curriculum development and Preparing for Adulthood pathways.
She is currently an educational consultant, providing strategic advice to schools and colleges on postâ16 curriculum planning.
Deborah ensures that safeguarding is embedded within curriculum and quality discussions, and that the Board provides effective oversight of how safeguarding arrangements support student welfare and learning.
Robert (Bob) Harris
Trustee and member of the Curriculum and Standards Committee
Bob Harris joined the Board of Trustees in March 2013 and brings extensive experience in education and public governance.
He began his career as a teacher of Russian to A-level, later becoming Head of Sixth Form in a London comprehensive school. He subsequently worked as a college lecturer and centre manager with responsibility for curriculum development and preâvocational education.
Bob also served as an elected councillor on Haringey Council, including as Chair of the Education Committee and Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Finance. He contributed to negotiations leading to the establishment of Haringey Sixth Form College.
Bob supports the Board in maintaining a positive and vigilant safeguarding culture, ensuring that learners’ safety and well-being remain central to strategic decision-making.
Zuhayr Goolamally
Trustee and member of the Audit Committee
Zuhayr Goolamally has served as a Trustee of Haringey Sixth Form College since July 2021.
Professionally, he has worked at Microsoft as a Customer Solutions Architect and previously at PwC UK as a Consultant. He has a background in Aerospace Engineering from City, University of London, alongside a range of industry certifications.
Zuhayr brings strong analytical capabilities and a particular focus on equitable outcomes, inclusion, and student experience. He contributes insight into mental health awareness and support for neurodivergent and disabled learners.
Zuhayr contributes to a wholeâcollege safeguarding culture, supporting Board oversight of student wellbeing, mental health, and inclusive safeguarding practice.
Claire McCarthy
Trustee and Member of the Curriculum and Standards Committee
Claire McCarthy joined the Board of Trustees in October 2023.
She is currently Director for Strategy, Communications and Collaboration at Haringey Council, having previously held roles including Assistant Director for Strategy, Communications & Collaboration and Head of the Leader’s Office.
Her earlier national experience includes serving as General Secretary of the Coâoperative Party, Director of Public Affairs at 4Children, and as a Special Adviser within HM Government.
Claire is the link trustee with responsibility for student voice.
Councillor John Bevan
Coâopted Trustee and Member of the Audit Committee
John Bevan has served as a coâopted trustee since October 2022 and is a member of the Audit Committee.
He has been an elected councillor for the Northumberland Park Ward in the London Borough of Haringey since 2002 and brings extensive experience in public accountability, financial oversight, and community governance.
John supports alignment between community priorities and educational provision and contributes to effective Boardâlevel scrutiny.
As a member of the Audit Committee, John supports the Board’s oversight of safeguarding governance, compliance, and risk management, ensuring appropriate systems and controls are in place.
Eduardo Araujo,
Coâopted Trustee and Member of the Audit Committee
Eduardo Araujo became a coâopted trustee in October 2024 and serves on the Audit Committee.
He brings extensive experience in programme management, business development, community development finance, and crossâsector collaboration, including work in investment banking, regeneration, and economic development.
Eduardo contributes strategic insight and supports strong governance practice across finance, risk, and organisational assurance.
Eduardo contributes to Board assurance by supporting effective safeguarding oversight, ensuring safeguarding risks are considered as part of wider governance, audit, and risk arrangements. Eduardo is the link trustee with responsibility for careers.
David Sherrington
Trustee and Link Trustee for Safeguarding, member of Audit Committee
David Sherrington joined the Board of Trustees in June 2024 and serves as the Board’s Link Trustee for Safeguarding.
David has over 20 years’ experience in local government, including 17 years in housing and regeneration. He currently leads a £250m regeneration programme at Broadwater Farm, alongside extensive resident engagement and service improvement work.
He has previously led housing asset management programmes and corporate communications and governance teams within an armsâlength management organisation.
As Link Trustee for Safeguarding, David provides targeted assurance to the Board that safeguarding arrangements are effective, supporting a strong and open safeguarding culture through regular monitoring, challenge, and liaison with senior leaders.
Deborah Kumbe
Trustee and Member of the Curriculum and Standards Committee
Deborah Kumbe was appointed to the Board of Trustees on 8 October 2024 and is a member of the Curriculum and Standards Committee.
She brings professional experience in early childhood and education studies, with experience working in educational settings that support learning, development, and progression for young people.
Deborah contributes to Board scrutiny relating to inclusive education, curriculum delivery, and progression pathways.
Sheila Miranda
Trustee and member of the Curriculum and Standards Committee
Sheila Miranda became a Trustee of Haringey Sixth Form College in October 2025 and brings over 23 years’ experience in local government.
Her work has focused on improving outcomes across services, including homelessness, rough sleeping, and regeneration, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and continuous improvement.
Sheila supports strategic governance and community engagement.
Sheila supports the Board in maintaining a positive safeguarding culture, contributing to oversight that ensures student safety, well-being, and protection are central to the College’s work. Sheila is the link trustee responsible for EDI.
