Celebrating Learning, Leadership and Culture at H6
Featured News / 23 October
What a way to wrap up the October half term! From welcoming future students to celebrating culture, exploring career pathways and bringing classroom learning to life, it has been a busy and inspiring few weeks at Haringey Sixth Form College.
These experiences reflect our ambition for every student: to gain knowledge and qualifications while developing the confidence, curiosity and skills to make the most of life beyond college.
Opening Our Doors to Future Students
Our first Open Evening of the academic year brought prospective students and their families into the heart of #TeamHaringey6.
Visitors explored the college, met staff and students, and discovered our courses and wider opportunities. Conversations with curriculum teams helped young people consider their next steps, understand their options and find out about the support available throughout their college journey.
Our incredible Student Ambassadors played a central role, answering questions, guiding visitors and sharing honest insights into college life. Their enthusiasm and pride helped create a welcoming atmosphere, while giving them valuable opportunities to develop communication, leadership and responsibility.
A special thank you to our ambassadors and staff, whose commitment made the evening such a success.

Celebrating Culture Through Food
Throughout Black History Month, our talented Catering Team have been serving a delicious variety of African and Caribbean-inspired lunches, enjoyed by students and staff alike.
Alongside bringing bold flavours and vibrant colours to our menus, these weekly dishes have provided an accessible way to explore and appreciate cultures represented within our college community. Sharing food creates opportunities for conversation, curiosity and connection, contributing to a college environment where different identities and experiences are valued.
Thank you to our catering colleagues for their creativity and hard work in making this celebration part of everyday college life.

Student Leaders Sharing the H6 Experience
Our Student Ambassadors also represented the H6 Student Leadership Academy during a visit to Willowfields School, meeting prospective students and their parents.
By answering questions and sharing their own experiences, they helped younger students explore the transition to college and consider their future choices. For our ambassadors, the visit offered another opportunity to practise public speaking, respond thoughtfully to different questions and act as positive role models.
Thank you to Willowfields School for welcoming us, and to our ambassadors for representing H6 with enthusiasm and pride.

Broadening Horizons: From Level 3 Sport to the House of Lords
Beyond our final week of activities, one of our Level 3 Sport students had an exceptional opportunity to attend Her Game Needs You at the House of Lords on 30 September.
The event celebrated female representation in football and marked the launch of Bloomsbury Football’s Women’s Coaching Pathway. As a female coach at Bloomsbury Football herself, our student found the experience particularly meaningful.
Reflecting on the event, she highlighted the importance of female coaches in encouraging more girls to participate, build confidence and recognise the opportunities available to them in sport.
Her experience demonstrates how involvement beyond the classroom can connect students’ studies with their ambitions, introduce them to new professional settings and broaden their understanding of leadership and representation. It also offers an inspiring example of a student contributing to her community while developing her own future in coaching.
Thank you to Bloomsbury Football for creating opportunities that champion women in football and help the next generation see what is possible.

Bringing Law, Criminology and Psychology to Life
Our Year 2 CLP students put their learning into practice during an immersive crime scene investigation workshop delivered by Crime Scene Challenge.
Led by professionals with experience in policing, the session challenged students to work together to solve a fictional murder mystery. Teams examined documentary evidence, analysed fingerprints and evaluated information to identify the culprit.
The workshop drew together learning across Law, Criminology and Psychology, encouraging students to connect their understanding of criminal investigations, offender behaviour and the evaluation of evidence.
Reading and interpreting documents, discussing competing explanations and justifying conclusions gave students opportunities to practise subject-specific vocabulary, analytical thinking and clear communication. The collaborative challenge also required careful listening, shared responsibility and respectful discussion.
By applying classroom knowledge to a realistic scenario, students explored how their subjects connect and developed a deeper understanding of investigative practice and the criminal justice system.

An Ambitious Experience for Every Student
Together, these activities show how curriculum learning, enrichment and student leadership contribute to the H6 experience. Whether interpreting evidence, supporting younger learners, exploring cultural traditions or entering an unfamiliar professional setting, students have opportunities to participate, take responsibility and develop their aspirations.
They also reflect the creativity and commitment of colleagues across the college, working alongside external partners to make learning engaging and open doors to new experiences.
As we head into half term, we hope all our students and staff enjoy a well-deserved opportunity to rest, reflect and recharge.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back for more learning, new opportunities and shared achievements — because at #TeamHaringey6, we really are #MoreThanACollege.
