At #H6, we are committed to providing students with meaningful experiences that extend learning beyond the classroom, develop cultural capital, and prepare young people for future success. During the May half-term break, students from #TeamHaringey6 demonstrated exactly what this looks like through two outstanding opportunities that showcased their skills, professionalism and commitment to their communities.

Media Students Gain Real-World Industry Experience at the Afro Hair & Beauty Show

Six talented Media students from #TeamHaringey6 were invited to participate in the prestigious Afro Hair & Beauty Show at the Business Design Centre in Islington, capturing professional media coverage of one of the UK's leading events celebrating Black beauty, culture and entrepreneurship.

Working as a dedicated production team, Harmony, Octavia, Safiya, Marayama, Rashawn and Diana took on the roles of photographers and videographers, documenting live demonstrations, conducting interviews and capturing the vibrant atmosphere across the exhibition spaces.

This enrichment opportunity provided students with invaluable industry experience, enabling them to apply classroom learning in a fast-paced professional environment. By working alongside event organisers and exhibitors, students developed their technical expertise, communication skills and confidence while gaining a deeper understanding of careers within the creative and media industries.

Despite the challenges of long hours and high temperatures, the students demonstrated exceptional resilience, professionalism and teamwork throughout the event. Each student took responsibility for a specific role, contributing to the successful production of high-quality media content while maintaining the highest standards of conduct.

Experiences such as these form a key part of our curriculum intent, ensuring students have access to authentic learning opportunities that enhance their employability, develop literacy and communication skills, and broaden their understanding of the wider world. The students represented the college with pride and were a credit to the Media department.

Reflecting on the experience, the students described it as an incredible opportunity and felt honoured to contribute to such a significant cultural event.

Student Ambassadors Champion Inclusion and Community Partnerships

At a recent Haringey Education Partnership (HEP) network event, #TeamHaringey6 Student Ambassadors played a vital role in supporting discussions focused on improving educational outcomes for children and young people from Turkish, Kurdish, Turkish Cypriot and Turkish Bulgarian (TKTCB) communities.

The event brought together education professionals from across the borough to share best practice, explore strategies for overcoming barriers to achievement and highlight effective approaches to supporting students and families. Particular attention was given to the work taking place at Haringey Sixth Form College to support students from TKTCB backgrounds, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Our Student Ambassadors welcomed guests, shared their personal experiences and helped showcase the inclusive, supportive and ambitious culture that exists at Haringey Sixth Form College. Their contributions highlighted the college's commitment to ensuring that all students, regardless of background or individual need, are empowered to achieve their full potential.

The event provided a valuable platform for partners across Haringey to learn more about the targeted academic support, pastoral care and SEND provision available at the college. It also celebrated the rich diversity of our student community and reinforced the importance of collaboration in creating positive educational outcomes.

The confidence, maturity and professionalism demonstrated by our Student Ambassadors reflected the positive learning culture that characterises #TeamHaringey6. Their involvement not only strengthened community partnerships but also illustrated the important role young people can play in shaping conversations around inclusion, opportunity and educational success.
