At #TeamHaringey6, this week has been packed with inspiring opportunities that continue to broaden our students’ horizons, develop their skills, and strengthen our vibrant learning community. From industry engagement and real-world work placements to powerful guest speakers and community partnerships, our students have been actively developing the knowledge, confidence and cultural awareness that prepares them for their futures.

To start the week, our Level 2 and Level 3 Sport students took part in an engaging Work-Related Learning Week, designed to build employability skills and give students valuable insights into careers in the sports industry and beyond.

Students participated in interactive sessions delivered by partners including University Campus of Football Business, St John Ambulance and Enrichment Partnership.

Across the sessions, students explored:

  • How to develop an effective CV
  • The importance of building a professional presence on LinkedIn
  • Key employability skills valued by employers
  • Strategies to overcome barriers to employment

These experiences support our commitment to Personal Development and Quality of Education, ensuring students gain the practical knowledge and confidence needed to succeed in competitive career pathways.

Our Level 3 Year 1 Extended Diploma Health & Social Care students have also begun their two-week professional placements, providing invaluable real-world experience within the sector.

Alongside this, our T-Level Health students continue their weekly placements every Wednesday across a range of healthcare settings, including:

  • Whittington Hospital
  • Somerset Gardens Medical Centre
  • Reid Pharmacy
  • Grace Day Care Centre

These placements enable students to apply their classroom learning in professional environments, strengthening their industry knowledge, communication skills and confidence, while developing a deeper understanding of patient care and professional standards.

Meanwhile, our students currently on international placements in Portugal and Crete are continuing to gain valuable workplace experience while immersing themselves in new cultures.

As well as completing their placements, students have been embracing life abroad—enjoying time at the beach, exploring local communities and even joining in football games with local residents.

These international opportunities significantly enrich students’ cultural capital, helping them build independence, adaptability and global awareness.

As part of celebrations for World Book Day, #H6 had the honour of hosting the renowned author and poet Michael Rosen.

The event welcomed around 1,300 children from local primary schools, who gathered to hear Michael Rosen read and perform some of his most beloved stories. The energy in the room was unforgettable, with smiles and excitement from pupils, staff and students alike.

Primary schools attending included:

  • Devonshire Hill Primary School
  • Lancasterian Primary School
  • Brook House Primary School
  • Risley Avenue Primary School
  • Lea Valley Primary School
  • St Francis de Sales Catholic Infant & Junior Schools

For many of our students and staff, meeting the author whose books they grew up reading was a truly memorable moment. One student shared:

“It was truly amazing and inspiring to see him and hear him in the flesh speak about why he became an author.”

A huge thank you goes Dal Babu, our dedicated facilities team, and the incredible #TeamHaringey6 staff who worked together to make this large-scale community event such a success.

Hosting this event reflects our commitment to literacy development, community engagement and cultural enrichment.

Students were also privileged to attend an inspiring and deeply moving assembly led by Mark Prince OBE, founder of the Kiyan Prince Foundation.

Students from Level 2 & Level 3 Sport and Level 3 Uniformed Protective Services took part in the session, where Dr Prince shared his powerful personal journey and introduced the Future Champions Programme, which our students will begin participating in from January 2026.

The programme focuses on:

  • Developing leadership, resilience and self-worth
  • Providing access to inspirational guest speakers
  • Using sport, creativity and discussion to support personal growth
  • Raising aspirations and reducing vulnerability to negative influences such as violence and exploitation

Dr Prince also spoke about his son, Kiyan Prince, a talented young footballer at Queens Park Rangers who tragically lost his life in 2006 after bravely defending a friend.

Through the Kiyan Prince Foundation, Dr Prince continues to empower young people by encouraging self-discovery, discipline and a champion’s mindset.

The assembly had a profound impact on students, offering both inspiration and practical strategies to support their personal and professional development.

We were also pleased to welcome representatives from the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT), an independent UK charity dedicated to supporting people with leukaemia and other life-threatening blood disorders.

During their visit, students learned about:

  • The importance of stem cell donation
  • The life-saving impact of blood and organ donation
  • Health awareness within Black and mixed-race communities

The session encouraged students to think about their role in supporting their communities and raising awareness of important health issues.
