English Literature gives you the opportunity to read widely and be creative in all the major literary genres: poetry, prose and drama. It also enables you to develop knowledge and understanding of the key ideas in literature, as well as helping to sharpen your communication skills.

What will I study?

  • Modern novels and plays like ‘the Lonely Londoners’ and ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’.
  • Classic texts like the poems of Christina Rossetti and Shakespeare’s plays.
  • Independent writing and research skills, helping you to develop your own research project and coursework.

  • You go on trips around London, including museums and theatres to see the plays we study.

How will I be assessed?

The first year of the A-Level is assessed through:

  • Two written examinations (50% each)

The second year of the A-Level course is assessed through:

  • Two written examinations (40% each)
  • One piece of coursework (20%)

Your teacher will provide on-going feedback throughout the duration of the course.

A-Level

5 GCSE grades 9-4, with a minimum grade 6 in one GCSE Humanities subject
