Haringey Sixth Form College has a supportive Careers Team and a qualified and experienced Careers Advisor who provides both current and potential learners with, impartial careers education information, advice and guidance on accessing a range of careers resources that meets each individual learners’ aspirations.
We are an inclusive college and welcome all from diverse backgrounds and abilities. We aspire to encourage learners and provide them with access to a planned programme of careers education and work-related learning that involves a variety of educational provision in support of successful post-18 transition.

Careers Guidance Interviews
Our Careers Advisor is available to support our learners who would like to discuss short term/long term career planning and pathways. She is available to offer intensive sessions on a 1-1 basis with learners who want to explore the range of opportunities that are available to them before they leave college.

Level 1 & Level 2

Introduction
All learners will be introduced to the Careers Service and Employability Programme. Learners will have access to a range of careers resources and will be supported via Canvas our VLE.

Integrating Careers:
• CV writing
• Job applications & interview skills
• Exploring apprenticeship levels including traineeship options
• Exploring labour market information
• Challenging stereotypes in the workplace
• Researching course specific employment options and career pathways
• Developing an understanding of the essential skills and qualities required for the workplace

Work Experience

Learners on Level 1 and Level 2 courses will have the opportunity to partake in internal/virtual work experience, based around skills-building and industry requirements.

Level 3 Vocational & A-Level Courses

Integrating careers:
Learners are encouraged to develop their employability skills in order to enhance their career prospects through Personal Professional Development (PPD) sessions delivered by their PPD tutors. Learners on certain vocational courses study career planning and employment units within their vocational course which provides them with opportunities to explore the world of work.

Certain subject areas provide learners with external work experience placements to enhance their employability and industry experience.

Open Events

Are you interested in Studying at Haringey Sixth Form College? If the answer is ‘yes,’ attend one of our Open Events where you will have the opportunity to see the college and speak to various members of staff including subject specialists and the Careers Team who will provide you with the information and guidance you need in order to choose the right path for you. We assist all our current and future learners on an individualised basis where they can speak to subject specialists and the College Careers Advisor at these events. Learners also have access to Careers Explorer and Labour Market Information via a link sent to them upon registration in assisting them in decision-making.

Students with additional needs and their parents are welcome to meet with the Careers Team and a range of experienced staff who are happy to discuss options and support during the course of study for students with EHCPs and additional learning needs.

Taster Days

Our Taster Days are organised to give you an insight into the courses we offer at Haringey Sixth Form College. You get to meet the team who will provide you with a real feel of the subject/s you are interested in. You will also be provided with subject relevant information and details about the qualifications you will achieve as well as progression. These sessions are successful in helping you make the best choices.

Work Experience

All learners at Haringey Sixth Form College have opportunities to participate in work experience as part of the Work Experience Programme. Opportunities include contact with employers and industry professionals, Various work experience programmes available such as voluntary work experience in industry, virtual work experience, internal skills building sessions and online projects.

Personal Professional Development (PPD)

The PPD programme is embedded into programmes of study with a focus on Careers and progression. All learners have regular contact with their PPD Tutors who discuss potential career pathways and opportunities. PPD tutors and the Careers Team support learners with progression plans and work closely with learners to help them create personal action plans.

Careers Resources

Careers resources are available cross-college for all learners via Canvas, the virtual learning environment accessible to all H6 learners and staff. Through this platform, learners are linked to their courses of study, PPD programme, Work Experience programmes and opportunities, Careers, UCAS and University preparation. Learners are also able to access resources from the Careers Advisor during drop-in or booked sessions.

Post A-Level / BTEC Level 3 Results

Following A-Level and BTEC Level 3 results, our Careers Advisor is available to discuss options with learners relating to Higher Education, Degree Apprenticeships, Apprenticeships, Internships and Employment. The information, support and guidance is offered with the intention of helping learners discover their options and make informed choices.

Before you enrol

If college is your choice but you are unsure about which course is right for you, you can book an appointment with the Careers Advisor to discuss your options and explore courses. The Careers Advisor will provide you with impartial advice and guidance to support you in making the best choices for you.
Post-GCSE Results Advice – The Careers Team are available on or after GCSE results day for consultation should you consider alternative options.

If you require further information about your chosen course, you will have the opportunity to meet subject specialists who can provide detailed information about course content, assessment and progression. Our experienced staff and Careers Advisor are also available to help you explore other course options if you are unsure about your chosen course.
