Haringey Sixers commence their first ABL home game of the season facing Aylesbury Grammar College. As competitors who got to the playoff semi finals, Sixers were keen to get a powerful start to the season, which ended victorious with a tight 90-86 win.
All throughout the game, Sixers had the lead with Aylesbury just stealing the lead in the last quarter by 2 points, only for the Sixers to eventually end triumphant with the win, aided by the top scorer from the Sixers Ayo who overall scored 30 points named MVP of the game.
Surprisingly, one of Sixers’ best players Taiwo Badmus was fouled out within the first half regarding the new rules from Basketball England; however the Sixers remained positive and strong with a high intense defence for the remainder of the game.
Team captain Taiwo Badmus commented, “We got off to a slow start, but as the game progressed to the second quarter we began our zone defence providing us with a huge advantage and from then on the team performed skilfully aiding the win”
Alongside MVP Ayo Awojobi, top scorers included Alasan Thomas who scored 12 and Bradley Yeboah scoring 10 who all played a key part in the victory for the Sixers, as half of Aylesbury Grammar’s points were scored from three throws throughout the game.
Coming out successful after their opening home game, Haringey Sixers gear up to play Uxbridge away on the 11th with Aylesbury Grammar College to play set to face CONEL on the 18th October at home.
Regarding the outcome today, Coach Alex Ducasse even confessed he was “shocked to see one of our best players was fouled out in the first half, regardless we put in lot of work but the unsportsman-like fouls via the new rules hurt us a lot throughout the game. Back to the lab to put in the extra work to iron out those small changes.”
