Corpus Christi College University of Cambridge
Just before Easter, Lydwine Ngahane Beyala visited Corpus Christi College at the University of Cambridge, where she had managed to gain one of the few places on the highly competitive Natural Sciences Masterclass.
Lydwine enjoyed talks on the chemistry of water and on the process of applying to Cambridge as well as a great lunch and tour of the college.
This included the chance to have a look at the accommodation, learn about the history of the college and its centuries-old buildings, to speak to current students about studying natural sciences.
Lydwine says about the event: “It made me realise that I am the kind of ambitious student they are looking for and that I can develop the skills it will take to gain a place there.”
Women in Mathematics Day
In the same week, Lydwine also attended a Women in Mathematics event, featuring talks from prominent female mathematicians from top universities in Germany, the USA and the UK. This provided a great opportunity to gain an insight into studying mathematics at university level, and the different approaches for research.
Lydwine was also given a commendation for asking the best question of the day, about how to find out about all of the different opportunities that are available in mathematical research, and how to make it more accessible.
Lydwine’s efforts show that she is well on the way to becoming exactly the kind of student top universities are looking for!
