Space Shifting & Photography

Art & Design students (year 1) visited the Hayward Gallery in London’s Southbank Centre to view the exhibition ‘Space-Shifters’, here they experienced startling sculpture and installation work made of mirrors, glass, plastic and metal, students studied and contemplated this array of strange objects such as Anish Kapoor’s  wonderful Cyan blue ‘sky mirror’ and Felix Gonzalez-Torres delicate golden beaded curtain.

Next, time for some creative photography – hunting for signs of ‘Urban Decay’ at the Southbank’s skateboard undercroft where we documented layer upon layer of graffiti and painted texture, then, off to Whitechapel’s Brick Lane, a favorite photo destination to collect primary research, posters, artwork, shop-front displays and lettering, textures, vibrant colour, everyday life, ice-cream and sushi was eaten!
