Staff vs Students Sport Relief tournaments
The Level 2 Sport group organised a series of competitive sport events to raise money for Sport Relief 2018. In all of the sports, there was staff representation, and the students enjoyed the opportunity to compete against their teachers and support staff. The students were organising the event as part of one of the units on the course; Unit 11: Running a Sports Event.
The sports ran over three days, and included badminton, football, basketball, table tennis and ultimate frisbee. Spectators were encouraged to attend all of the events, and to donate some spare change on their way into the sports hall. Highlights of the week included the principal, Russ Lawrance, participating in the basketball competition, and the staff football team narrowly losing out on penalties in the football competition.
The students managed to raise £201 for Sport Relief, which is an excellent achievement.
Codi Murray, the Level 2 Sport tutor, commented; ‘It was a very successful student-led event, and they gained an understanding of how important teamwork is when being adaptable and meeting challenges.’
Level 2 student, Chris Allen said ‘It was really fun to be creative and get students and staff to engage with sports.’
