You have to See for yourself
As we approach the middle of November I thought it would now be appropriate to thank everyone for supporting the college throughout this difficult period.
Closing our college, whole or part time would put our students educational outcomes at risk, and attainment gaps risk being exacerbated. We have stayed open throughout.
We have always kept the safety of our college community as the number one priority.
The physical and mental health of our students is also a key factor in any decision making process. Evidence suggests that the mental health of adolescents is particularly affected if they disengaged with their education.
Cognitive, social, and emotional developmental outcomes are also at risk. We are also very aware of other lockdown-related stressors such as economic uncertainty, are also likely to be exacerbated. Extended periods of remote learning can lead to poorer educational outcomes, although some sources suggest that in the short-term adverse outcomes may be limited this is not we believe the way to go.
Time out of college generates substantial psychological inequalities on young people. Mental wellbeing is mediated by loneliness, lack of socialisation, lack of physical activity and hunger. It is reasonable to expect that similar mechanisms apply in the context of COVID-related college closures.
The same approach is key to supporting our potential new and prospective students. It’s tough in normal circumstances deciding on where you want to go to college. It's a big decision to make. There are so many colleges and courses to choose from; How can one decide between identical courses in two different colleges?
We aim for excellence in everything we do, so we aim to help. We have a virtual Open Evening on 25 November from 4pm But, how can you see the building feel the atmosphere? It is truly stunning I assure you.
Just as different cities have their own personality and vibe, so do colleges. So come on #DiscoverTheDifference.
We want you to have the option to walk around the college and be immersed in its atmosphere. See the buildings, lecture rooms, innovation centre, restaurant and all our amazing facilities. Get a feel for our values, what drives us and what drives the college?
You can get a tour virtual or in person on Saturday 5th December from 10am. My vlog will explain the vent on Sat 5th Dec. We want to be here for you.
By taking a tour of the college, you can ask real students about their experience in the college. You get to see the facilities meet me and some of the amazing staff.
Ok, you obviously don't get to meet everyone at this time but you will get a feel for us and the place.
We are different, find out why we are #MoreThanACollege.
Make sure you can get more detailed info about the course you may want to do. It also gives you the chance to ask any questions you may have about the course from course subjects to student support.
A key part of college is the #H6Experience. Clubs and societies are a place where you can explore your interests and make lots of new friends.
Members of the Students Union and Student Ambassadors will help you find out all about the social side of the college.
Arm yourself with as much information as you can for when you have to decide on your future college. We are sure this will be as part of #TeamHaringey6.
See you soon!
