#TeamHaringey6 Support The Tottenham Street Kitchen

On Saturday 23rd November 2019, staff and students form Haringey Sixth Form College (H6) dedicated their time to support an essential service for the homeless in the London Borough of Haringey - 'Tottenham Street Kitchen'

The staff and students were keen to help provide a free, nutritional, and most importantly hot three-course meal which is vital during this time of year.

The Creative Team at Haringey Sixth Form College, more specifically Toby Walsh - H6 Chef Lecturer and the Hospitality and Catering students, kindly offered to prepare and cook the meals for the Street Kitchen.

The day went down well, led by Florina Iosif - H6 Director of A-Levels, Creative Industries & Young College, Rikeem Jones - H6 Progress Coach, Suzan Suleyman - H6 Public Services Lecturer with massive support from two students of Young College at H6 - Dejaun Campbell and Alf Yusufi.

H6 has been involved with Street Kitchen project for a while now and they feed approximately 50-70 homeless people fortnightly. The Street Kitchen operates solely on donations and support from volunteers and H6 intends to take over the service, including cooking and serving food once every half term.

Anyone can be appalled by the homelessness situation, but it takes a special group of people to do something about it. And this is exactly what #TeamHaringey6 have been doing. A college that cares and play a full part in it's community.

Florina Iosif mentioned, 'My Young College children were so amazing - They impressed everyone! They were so helpful, friendly and polite and they set up the whole venue and even tidied up everything after. They also want to go back! Rick and Suz were also stars!

Such a good day. We are all knackered, but we are doing it all over again on the 14th of Dec!'

Russ Lawrance Principal/CEO commented, 'In a very small way I do hope our students can see the benefits to society of intervening early, even in this small way. This will help with fewer health and other problems, and I hope improves mental health conditions. We have only four values at college and one of them is respect. One of the best ways to help anyone is to show them respect. I am so proud to hear that our team, as they look into their eyes of the people they were working with and as they talked to them with genuine interest, then they can recognise their value as an individual. This gives all a sense of dignity and it's so important that our students learn this experience. What an amazing bunch of staff and students we have at Haringey Sixth.'

As this project is solely dependent on donations and voluntary support, For the Street Kitchen Christmas Party on the 14th of December 2019, we would appreciate 'Christmas Desserts' and any money contributions as we are planning on making individual bags with socks, gloves and hats including any canned/dry food we can use for future menus. We also welcome anyone who would like to volunteer with us.

This H6 contribution will happen every half-term but we will communicate future dates as soon as they are available for 2020.

If you would like to join us, please let Florina know and she'll make arrangements.

Thank you very much in advance for your support and generosity.
