Haringey Hawks Take The 2020 U18's Champs Title... Again

Haringey Hawks entered the Essex Sport Arena on Sunday 2nd February 2020, with every intention of taking home the Under 18's National Cup again, and with a very close last second win against Myerscough, they were successful with a 65-64 win!

With 0.9 seconds left on the clock, Owen Young managed to score a free throw, given to them after being fouled by Myerscough.

Alex Distras, Ndewedo Newbury and Owen Young were stars of the show - Distras was awarded MVP with 27 points, Ndewedo, 13 points and 9 rebounds, and Young also pushed double digits with 10 points.

Franklin Agu, previous Haringey Hawks player, was also in double figures with 10 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists against Haringey Hawks.

“We pushed and pushed. Despite a slow start and being down on points, we bounced back in the second half, at the very last minute.” - Alex Distras, Haringey Hawks player.

"What a game. What a comeback. Basketball is a lot more than just a sport, it’s also about the mind-set. A lot goes into making the players aim higher and go hard in the game. Under 18 National Cup Champions. I love my team. We’ve got some great players on our team and we didn’t come all the way here not to win.“ - Franck Batimba, Haringey Hawks Head Coach.

“I want to congratulate both teams on another epic encounter. These have been the two standout teams in this age groups for the last two years. I am of course delighted that Haringey Hawks came out on top on this occasion. This is a testimony not only to their skills and abilities but their characters, culture and values instilled in them. I am equally pleased for the coaches and parents. As we say at Haringey Sixth Form College, a great team effort #TeamHaringey6. A wonderful group of young lads. I am very proud to be associated with them." - Russ Lawrance, Principal & CEO at Haringey Sixth Form College.
