Allen & Overy Smart Start Work Experience Programme
Haringey Sixth Form College's future lawyers in the making undertook the Skills and Assessment Day as part of the Allen and Overy Smart Start Work Experience programme. The progamme is designed to find talented and ambitious young people and give them the opportunity to see how a major law firm works.
The application process for this programme is very competitive, with students having to undertake a number of online tasks around problem solving. Six A-level Law students from H6FC successfully gained a place on the course and attended the assessment day. Whilst there they had the opportunity to meet different people from within the legal profession and gain an insight the law in practice. There were then a number of different activities, including a presentation which the students had to undertake.
Irina Campan, A-level Law student, stated 'The day really took me out of my comfort zone. I really enjoyed the challenge and meeting the different legal professionals. I can't wait to start the full programme'.
From this, 60 students will gain a place on the full week work experience programme this summer. We are happy to announce that four of our students were successful and will be attending the full programme in July 2017. On this programme they will get the opportunity to network with legal professionals and their peers. They will also receive a mentor from the firm and can apply for funding for their undergraduate degree.
Richard Clinch, Head of Law at Haringey Sixth Form, said 'This is a great opportunity for our students. It allows them to gain a first-hand look at the work of a solicitors and will be invaluable when applying for university and the workplace'.
Russ Lawrance, Principal of Haringey Sixth Form College added “I am pleased that the staff at the College continue to go the extra mile with their students and organise opportunities like the Allen & Overy Smart Start Work Experience Programme for their students. Another great example of how we at Haringey Sixth Form College prepare students for life beyond college”.
Well done to all those involved.
