Reminiscence Booklet for North Middlesex Hospital
ESOL students at Haringey Sixth Form were asked to produce Reminiscence Booklets for two dementia wards at North Middlesex Hospital. The hospital wanted the patients to have clear and attractive booklets to look at, to invoke memories of the local area and of their home countries.
The ESOL students were given a list of relevant countries and they researched these to find out about festivals, interesting places, traditional food and important people. They chose photographs and wrote short captions for each image. They also collected a number of photographs of local areas of interest. Once they had found images that they were happy with, they collated everything and produced booklets.
The students really enjoyed this project and they were happy to have the opportunity to do something useful for the local hospital. They also liked researching new countries and finding out about different cultures. The booklets that they made were of a very high standard and are now on the wards for the patients to enjoy.
