Black History Month with Entry & Foundation
On Friday 20th October, in the Drama Studio, 26 students from Rachel Ogufere, Lyn McManigan and Aneliya Velinova’s classes participated in a special African drumming event led by Efiba Arts to recognise Black History Month. The students gathered in a circle with the support of LSAs and learnt to use traditional African drums. They practice a number of different techniques and rhythms led by the instructor, and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to express themselves through music.
Midway through the session, some learners were encouraged to dance which was done with great vigour and enthusiasm. Staff and students alike enjoyed the rhythm drumming and the teacher was encouraging and very passionate in her craft.
It was a great event and each learner had the chance to perform, dance and learn about traditional African drumming and its relevance in Black history.
