Civil Engineering Work Experience
In our quest to prepare our students for life beyond college we gained a number of virtual work experience placements for the next couple of weeks. This week our Applied Science students are on Virtual Work experience working closely with North London Waste Authority and Taylor Woodrow, the civil engineering division of VINCI Construction UK, a world leader in concessions and construction.
During the week they got to fully experience the working life and the students have heard from an amazing female Civil Engineer within the company who talked about her career journey as well as the planning and management of the projects within the organisation.
The students also liaised with apprentices within Taylor Woodrow which focused more on applying for jobs within the industry, and tips on how to become more employable. The students also participated in virtual physical challenges such as making a boat using tin foil, water, a bucket and batteries/coins/pebbles.
It was a fantastic opportunity and one which will be hugely beneficial when they start to apply for jobs.
Sofia Goumni, one of the students involved in the work experience said "The whole week was fantastic. I've really enjoyed myself. It’s opened my eyes to a possible career in the civil engineering and I’ll now be looking into what my options are for the future!"
Special Thank you to North London Waste Authority and Taylor Woodrow.
