Celebrating a Wonderfully Planned and Executed National Art Show 2019

Henri Matisse once said, "Creativity takes courage." it is with this statement that we are proud to confirm that indeed courage was displayed during the lead up to and during the evening of Thursday 27th June 2019, where spectacular artwork done by students from across the UK was unveiled and exhibited at Alexandra Palace, North London; an inspiring and prestigious venue.

This special day also happened to be the first leg of Haringey Sixth Form College's annual Creative Art Summer Exhibition 2019; a national art show and the Sixth Form College's Association's (SFCA) Cloud Land themed summer 2019 art exhibition. The exhibition was organised to recognise and celebrate art from students from across the country, with support from Haringey Council and Alexandra Palace.

As the SFCA mentioned, "It is imperative that we keep the arts in education secure and flourishing. If young people are to make a truly valuable contribution to society, even if they are to be successful scientists, engineers, doctors and technicians, they need to develop their creative skills, their artistic sensitivities and their ability to interact with others.

The exhibition will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the arts and recognise excellence within sixth form colleges."

Haringey Sixth Form College's Principal & CEO, Russ Lawrance was down there to show his support - "What a fantastic display of talent on show, reflective of the amazing quality and creativity we have across the Sixth Form College Sector. A massive thanks to Isobel and all the staff at Alexandra Palace. The East Court really is a stunning venue."

Russ also rightfully commended the staff at Haringey Sixth Form College by saying "A massive thanks must go to #TeamHaringey6; without H6 staff and Haringey Sixth Form College, this event simply would not have been possible. The team have taken delivery of the artwork, arranged transportation, installation and erection. They will also dismantle and take down. At times we have had up to ten staff on site just to get this show on the road. I am so proud of Florina Iosif and her team as they have shown real can do/will do behaviour; she has shown great leadership that has delivered, on behalf of the Sixth Form Colleges Association a magnificent first National Art Show.

I know Bill Watkin CEO of the SFCA is delighted with the outcome."

Joining Russ to show support, as always, was Mayor of Haringey, Cllr. Sheila Peacock, Community Development Officer, Dalwardin Babu (OBE) and Haringey Sixth Form College Trustee, Ros Lucas.

There were 150 confirmed guests for the VIP reception, all in attendance to witness the great work that art students from across the UK had produced, and the spectacular exhibition that the Art Team at Haringey Sixth Form College had wonderfully planned and executed from scratch.

Amongst the amazing displays was Haringey Sixth Form College's UAL Level 3 Art student, Larisse Mongaba's work that had been selected to be displayed at the Cascade for Origins Creative Arts Festival 2019 at Truman Brewery. This is extremely great news as the UAL award body team had received over 350 entries from colleges nationwide, and Larisse's piece had been selected by the professional curators, Elliott Burns and Pita Arreola, for inclusion in the exhibition! Fantastic!

Origins Creative Arts Festival offers students the exciting opportunity to see their work exhibited in a London venue which is open to the public. This year's exhibition will take place at the Truman Brewery, Brick Lane on 25-28 July 2019. Keep an eye on our news feeds to get an update after the festival.

Jerzi Kosinsky's quote, "The principles of true art is not to portray but to evoke” definitely resonates with the exhibition as it evoked many emotions from everyone that shows their support.

Make sure you get down there this weekend. Due to the demand, an extra date was added, so the exhibition has now been extended to Sunday 30th June 2019.
