Sep 2019 -
Again, things are moving at pace. We have just finished celebrating the results of our students in August, we are at the back end of the enrolment of this year’s cohort and we have the opening of our new stunning facilities.
I have just about caught my breath. In doing so I have just quickly reflected on the transformational impact of Haringey Sixth Form College over the last three years.
The college is as an essential part of not only the education system in London for young people but it has also has been recognised nationally with The Sixth Form Colleges Association (SFCA) Award for Enterprise & Employability, the H6 Basketball Academy team became National Champions and we hosted in partnership with Haringey Council, Alexandra Palace and the SFCA, a National Art Show - A few quick highlights!
I think we have developed, working together with many partners a strong coalition of support.
We have engaged Rap Interiors, Thornwood Interiors and Innovate Food to collectively transform the college. The facilities for our students and staff are absolutely stunning and really are unique. Every learning space has been transformed, we have a brand new university style lecture theatre, a fantastic coffee shop and eatery called The Hive@H6 & The Hart@H6 and we have a brand new fitness suite. Lest we forget all this is following on from last year’s developments, namely the Innovation Centre, The Hub and the Crib.
At times, this has been a very long road but I am so pleased and proud for everyone connected with the college, as they and the college are receiving the recognition they deserve.
This is all well and good but we must build on this success, so we don’t stand still and can champion our outstanding college for the work we do here every day.
This week, I am already back out in schools as we start to engage with and recruit new students for 2020/21.
This year, we will be focusing our campaign on getting people into the college to see much of what I am talking about in this blog - the facilities, the buzz, the vibe which collectively we call the #H6Experience. We want to challenge you to come and see for yourselves, so in effect we challenge you to #DiscoverTheDifference!
I have been working with the Board and Senior Executive team to develop change but to ensure that this is for the long term and is sustainable.
Every day I walk the corridors of this place, observing, talking, laughing with everyone, especially our amazing students. I can tell you there is not a day that goes by when I don’t think ‘wow this is a really inspirational place.’
We have achieved a lot and this shows the impact further education can have on the lives of young people.
This college makes such a valuable but often less seen contribution across the areas and communities we serve. We get involved in innovative projects, engaging with people of all ages in the community such as the Tottenham University project and supporting local businesses with engagement such as the Tottenham Charter.
Haringey Sixth Form Colleges is a huge force of good for thousands of students and their families.
We have come a long way and perceptions have changed, but there is more to do. The perfect opportunity to continue to build that momentum and set our sights even higher is for you all to be part of this fantastic force of nature.
So, come and join #TeamHaringey6, feel the #H6Experience & #DiscoverTheDifference!
