May 2019 -
"Haringey Sixth Form College is to undergo a million-pound facelift over the summer to accommodate the increasing number of students who want to study here."
What a fantastic headline on which to start my May blog!
This week, Trustees have approved a significant investment plan for our amazing college. It really will be a “Beautiful Haringey”
I am delighted to be able to announce what is the next phase in an on-going project to continually improve our college facilities in order to keep up the pace with the increasing demand for student places. One of our current students said to me "Thanks, Sir! You are making the college really nice!"
Many of you will have already seen the investments to date, for example, the Innovation Centre, common room and @H6Connected. Now, you will see Haringey Sixth Form College invest more than a million pounds into the college over the summer.
This is not the finish line!
It won’t stop there as we are already having conversations about an extension on our campus, so we can accommodate an extra 300-400 young people choosing to continue their academic and vocational education with us over the next couple of years.
We already educate over 1,000 young people from an initial number of just over 650, three years ago.
Our reputation continues to grow; student applications now come from just over 100 different feeder institutions.
I believe the growing success of Haringey Sixth Form College, coupled with the investment in the campus and investment in the staff will encourage more and more young people to study here.
The multi-million-pound plans are due to the college’s “continued high levels of student success” and the increasing demands for student places.
Haringey Sixth Form College is the largest and only specialist sixth form college in the borough.
We know that the investments in the college will see more young people studying here, once they realise the input is actually an investment into them in order to improve their experience and time spent as a student with us, discovering themselves during their time here.
Many of you will have already seen the new ground floor area as I have mentioned. Other developments will include a café, coffee bar and more social space accommodating up to 200 students.
Further improvements include enhancing the sport and physical education facilities, a multi-purpose, state-of-the-art fitness suite, specialist study areas, as well as additional classrooms to accommodate the increasing demand for places.
The building work has already started with five brand new state-of-the-art classrooms already unveiled. We are also looking at partnership developments.
In addition to the increased recruitment in 2019, new courses and new provision will mean an extra 300 additional student places will be available from September 2020.
The philosophy is actually quite simple - we are further enhancing the teaching, learning and social experience at the college and we are preparing for the increased demand for 16-18 education places here.
As a high-quality 16-18 educational institution it is our mission to provide the best education and learning experience possible for the students in our care. This means we need to invest in the college's infrastructure and ensure it is fit for purpose now and into the future.
With our increasing positive reputation and high levels of student achievement year after year, we are attracting more and more applicants and aim to be able to provide a place here for all students who display the right attitude.
We want good human beings here, students who want to be part of #TeamHaringey6, who will enjoy the #H6Experience. All of our students must be able to access an outstanding 16-18 educational experience, regardless of their programme of study.
As Principal & CEO, I would like to thank my Board of Trustees for their support. As mentioned by one of the Trustees, “It says a lot about a college when we are planning to invest millions of pounds not just to take more students in but to ensure that we aim for excellence in everything we do. It’s all about the students here.”
The day-to-day challenge remains. We will be in contact with our new applicants and sending them our best wishes for the forthcoming GCSE exams.
Although the college is full for September 2019, we know that not all students will take up an offer, so we will be accepting late applications for any courses that are not oversubscribed.
Thanks again for taking the time to read my blog. Please keep in touch. All the recent news updates are on the website and on our social media feeds.
As ever, very best wishes from everyone at #TeamHaringey6!
As we build on the #H6Experience, remember
