Principal's Blog

February 2019 -

As we approach half term, Christmas and New Year are now a distant memory. So, what are the key messages this month?

Well, my message now to our students is along the lines of – “Where will you be at the end of this academic year? Will you have achieved your qualifications? Will you achieve the grades? Will you be able to progress?”

This will be my consistent message in line with this terms Principal’s presentations. I will also be writing to all our students with the same key focus - attendance and the quality of teaching & learning. My message to the teaching staff is to focus on the quality of teaching and learning. To our professional services staff, it’s about providing the right environment through our Beautiful Haringey Strategy that inspires learning. This includes the refurbishment of two classrooms over half term.

I can ensure that if you get this right, all the hard yards gained now will pay off later in the year.

This is the time of year to really focus on achieving qualifications that will enable students to progress after the end of the summer term; be this staying at college next year or heading off to university or employment.

Naturally, the progression for all is a step up and that step up must be earned!

‘Attendance, attendance, attendance’. Without an excellent attendance record, students put all the above at risk. So, it is clear that I am talking about the student's achievement of qualifications, and the student's progression. But I am asking students to be honest and understand the consequences of not attending.

People will have heard me say this many times to students. I will repeat it. “Do the mirror test. Ask yourself where are you now? Be honest, take responsibility and then think where you want to be? Students, it is in your hands.”

As a student, think - what changes do I need to make to get there? Many students do need to improve attendance, the quality of their work and increase the time they dedicate to revision. The time to do that is now!

Equally, students can ask for help but if you are not here or don’t ask, we cannot help! I am very proud of the support the students get at the college. The blog is as ever honest, direct and challenging. This is the reason why our students, working in partnership with the College, do so well here.

So as ever, let me finish this section on a positive! Here you go - My challenge to you, our amazing students - We so want you all to be successful and I know you want the same. So come on, actions speak louder than words.

I hope this monthly blog and our twitter feed will give you an insight into the developments, events and activities of the college, its staff and students throughout 2019.

You will be reading this on our newly refreshed website - I hope you like it. As ever, we are looking to achieve excellence in everything. We are always looking for continuous improvement.

I believe we have everything in place to ensure Haringey Sixth Form College, the staff and the students continue to flourish and continue the life-changing work the college is doing for our communities.

Please keep in touch. All the recent news updates are on the website.

The next series of events and information for prospective students appear at the bottom of this blog.

For now, my very best wishes from everyone at #TeamHaringey6, as we build on the #H6Experience, remember
