Marching into Spring!
I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!!! I cannot wait to get back to College on 8th March and see all our AMAZING staff and students – hold tight, #TEAMHARINGEY6!!
And what an IMPORTANT date 8th March promises to be. Not only do I get to see all the people I have missed so much during lockdown, but it is also INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2021. The global campaign is #ChooseToChallenge and that is about remembering that we can all choose to challenge and call our gender bias and inequality. But what if we take this further? What if we choose to challenge everything…….starting with ourselves? We have yet ANOTHER opportunity for a WONDERFUL fresh start as we move into spring, the days get longer, and the weather gets better. How lucky are we for getting yet ANOTHER chance for a NEW BEGINNING this year?! So, let’s CHALLENGE ourselves to continue to be FABULOUS, get stuck in with some HARD WORK which ultimately leads us to having CHOICE in the futures.
Talking of CHALLENGES, we have had the Haringey 6 Staff and Student fitness challenge, the INCREDIBLE #TeamHaringey6 have been competing in cycling, walking and running distances. Well done guys!
February was even more ASTONISHING than we thought it was going to be….our Virtual Open Event on 10th was completely BURSTING – we had to create a waiting room for the waiting room.
For those of you who may have missed out or want a second look, we have another one scheduled for Saturday, 6th March – see you online for that! Our VIRTUAL PARENTS EVENING was a resounding success, with RECORD NUMBERS of parents and carers signing up to find out about their young people’s REMARKABLE progress.
Our TREMENDOUS students never stop working - one group spent 4 days of their half term break attending a fantastic DIGITAL CHAMPIONS programme for a new online safety initiative (SafeNet) – this is going to be BIG and, as always, our students were right at the forefront of it, learning to mentor young people in primary schools to stay safe online. Another group presented in front of top Civil Service POWER PARTNERS as part of their MAKE IT HAPPEN leadership programme! True to form, our SELFLESS students have been developing their ideas for social enterprises which aim to change the community for the better – WOW!
Even more exciting is the fact that while the building has been quiet, we have been able to START on ANOTHER round of expansions, renovations and refurbishments of the College site. Keep your eye on the website for photos, coming soon!
March is going to be ACTION PACKED! We return on 8th and I will be hosting WELCOME BACK BREAKFASTS on Wednesdays 10th and 17th (I promised there would be breakfast, and there will!).
We have over 400 TERRIFIC students undertaking WORK EXPERIENCE during March and we have made the most of the remote working environment to enable this to happen! Even more exciting, the NHS have put together a BESPOKE programme of events for our Level 1 and 2 Health and Social Care students…….so there’s yet ANOTHER reason to clap for the NHS!!
It’s going to be such a PLEASURE to be back in the REAL WORLD in March. I am looking forward to catching up with everyone in person (and obviously, appropriately socially distanced :) !
