ENTRY LEVEL

These courses are designed for young people with a high level of additional learning needs transferring from special school settings. The courses support students in developing their independence and vocational experience. No formal qualifications are needed to join these courses. Some students may progress to entry level or foundation courses.


FOUNDATION

These courses are designed to develop the basic and vocational skills needed to progress to courses at higher levels e.g. confidence building, study support, literacy and numeracy. At the end of the course you may progress to Level1 courses with support.


FOUNDATION LEVEL 1

This provides a foundation of knowledge and skills in a range of vocational areas. To enrol you will generally need GCSEs at grades E-G or other relevant qualifications. Courses include NVQ level 1 and BTEC Introductory. The key to getting a place on these courses is your commitment to do well in the area of study.


INTERMEDIATE LEVEL 2

These courses develop a broader range of skills and knowledge by building on level 1 qualifications. They include GCSEs, BTEC First and NVQ level 2.They are designed to provide a broad education as a stepping stone to employment or further and higher education. To study at level 2 you will usually need GCSE passes at grade D or above, or an equivalent, though your experience, ability and interest in the chosen vocational area will be taken into account.


ADVANCED LEVEL 3

This develops advanced skills and offers a more complex understanding of a subject or specialist vocational area. It can lead to university level study or to employment. They include AS/A2, BTEC National Award, Certificate or Diploma, NVQ level 3 and Advanced Diploma.You will usually need 4 or more GCSEs at grade C or above in relevant subjects, or an equivalent qualification at level 2 to study a level 3 vocational course or 5 or more GCSEs at grades A*-C in relevant subjects to study an AS/A2 programme.
