All the students in the Foundation area have unique qualities and different support needs. Therefore we start with a period of initial assessment at the beginning of the year to set individual targets for you.
Within this faculty you will have the opportunity to develop your confidence and the key skills of Communications, Numeracy and ICT. This programme is designed to meet your individual needs. The accommodation and facilities are of the highest quality the curriculum draws not only from what the centre has to offer but also from the local community. Specialist teachers and a large team of experienced support staff work with students on their individualised programmes of learning. With the support of trained therapists, there is an emphasis on integrating therapies, such as physiotherapy, speech and language and occupational therapy into your overall programme.
Entry/Foundation
If you have a high level of additional learning needs you can work in small groups to access all parts of the campus and develop your independence. With support you will be able to participate in a full range of vocational, social and leisure learning experiences and make choices about appropriate progression pathways.
Students who have severe learning difficulties, needs on the autistic spectrum or combinations of medical and learning needs, can explore and develop the particular skills needed to become more independent young adults. There are also tailor made units designed to accredit students' personal development, their increasing confidence and their social skills as well as units in specific vocational areas. All elements of the programme are accredited either through the City and Guilds Personal Progress through Life Skills or internally through an Essential Skills Award.
Some students may progress onto a Level 1 course. On reaching the age of 19, you can follow a link course to a larger college or another setting where you can develop your independence and skills further.
