The Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty offers you a wide range of A level subjects which encourage you to develop a critical approach to the study of the wider world and human behavior and relationships.
On all our courses there is a strong emphasis on preparing you for university through developing higher level skills in critical analysis, interpretation and evaluation. If you study humanities and social science subjects, career opportunities are wideranging and include: the legal profession, the civil service, careers in psychology, working for local government, work in education, human resources management, environmental work, journalism, media work, public relations, social work and so on. If you are studying A level courses, you will be given opportunities to work towards gaining level 3 communications through preparing and delivering presentations, producing extended written work and reading at an advanced level.
Additionally, we have a one-year Bridging Programme to A levels, if you just missed out on taking up a full AS level programme.
Trips and visits which enrich learning will be organised, including fieldwork opportunities where appropriate.
Bridging Course to A levels in Humanities & Social Sciences
This course is designed for students who have just missed the entry requirements for AS levels, but have a strong interest in and ability to progress to AS levels in humanities and social science subjects after one further year of GCSE study. This is not simply a GCSE retake programme as some of the subjects will be new to you and you may be able to take one AS subject.
This course will help you develop the background knowledge and skills you need to progress to AS level study the following year. You will improve your general study skills and your key skills in communication through structuring and producing extended writing, preparing and delivering presentations and carrying out research using books, newspaper articles, journal articles and internet resources. You will also develop your skills in answering exam questions effectively.
